RENOVATION UPDATE: MOOD BOARDS & MY INSPIRATION

It feels like I have been planning this flat for years, when in reality it’s been no longer than 3 months, but it’s certainly been all-consuming (and with that, so much fun!). We are only 3 weeks into the renovation, but so much has been done already! We expect to be in by the end of February.

The planning and design process is what I enjoy the most, and it’s the most satisfying feeling seeing it all come together. I have been way more organised this time, working with a digital mood boards and layout, but as always, I’m constantly getting a lot of inspiration from Pinterest, which is great when you are trying to envisage and convey a specific mood to a space.

Some key words for this apartment, include: airy, light, warm and soft, using natural textures and materials. The flat is 140sqm, and it’s a corner flat, which means there’s so much natural light and windows. The ceiling height is over 3m, with a lot of traditional and classic features retained. As the apartment itself is so beautiful, I wanted to create a design which won’t take any attention away from this – simply enhancing and creating a comfortable and warm space to be in. As you will see from some of my moodboard snippets below, I’m planning on using a lot of natural colours and materials, such as French oak herringbone flooring, linen, feathers, marble, glass – mixed together dark metals and oxidised brass. I’m going all white this time – both on the walls and all the wooden panelling – keeping the area light and bright, and rather introduce depth, colour and warmth via the furniture and accessorising.

Thanks for sharing, looks gorgeous and can’t wait to see it all finished. Have you chosen a rug for the living room yet? I have similar tones and just can’t decide on a rug so any ideas would be much appreciated!

Thanks so much! We actually kept the same West Elm rug we have had for a few years as the colours slotted perfectly in :)
