Wedding Series: Hair, Part Two

Wedding Series: Hair, Part Two

As well as getting skin ready with Guinot over the course of the last three months, I have been fortunate enough to have been a weekly customer of Sassoon Salons (I mainly go to the South Molton Street branch) – where I have been getting luxury hair treatments, to regain my gloss and strength – as well as slowly working our way towards my new colour for the wedding.

Luxury Treatments

Being conscious of my hair being very coloured and bleached – and with that, rather tired and dull – I have been trying to do everything bar putting more bleach onto it – rather focusing on soft toners and eventually a whole colour (more about that below).

The luxury treatments have worked wonders on my hair; and this specific service Sassoon offer is completely bespoke to each individual. My amazing colorist Neville (he is a magician), has been putting together the below tailored remedy to suit my hair and needs, which consist of:

Wella SP, Balance Scalp ~ A soothing, intense treatment for a sensitive scalps, which strengths the skins own protective barrier – which is mixed together with Wella, SP Hydrate ~ an instant boost of moisture, a luxurious mask providing softness, definition and shine, boosting elasticity, giving hair suppleness and bounce.

“We wanted to rehydrate and revive Anneli’s hair, whilst instantly smoothing and softening her locks”, Neville says. “Healthy hair gets its strength and shine from a combination of proteins and vitamins, just like our skin. Your hair needs customised care to help keep it healthy, radiant and supple; our treatments deliver a host of benefits to dry, parched hair – from boosting the vibrancy of your colour to preventing future damage and instantly smooth’s and strengthens each strand”, he continues.

The luxury treatment takes around 20 minutes (although I would allow 35 minutes in total) and the result is amazing. Afterwards I’m always given an amazing blow dry; I don’t normally like anything too big, too styled or fuzzy – often opting for the smooth and natural look – however when I’m off to an event or going somewhere special – I let them give me a little curl!

All luxury treatments are 20 minutes for £25, a blow dry is £32.

Phase 1: Darker Layers & Toning

My natural colour is quite a dark brown; I’ve been having regular highlights for over 5 years – which is a lot of maintenance let me tell you that (hello roots!). I’ve been embracing the ombre look for a long time (simply because of the ease keeping it up), but been wanting to change it back to my natural colour for quite some time. My trusted colorist Neville – who doesn’t hold back his opinions (which I love!) – suggested I ease it in slowly (in case I panicked and changed my mind – which has been known to happen, a lot.)

I really love my caramel locks, but the idea of having the ombre style in my wedding pictures slightly terrified me; I wanted a classic and neutral look – hence why the decision of going back to my natural colour wasn’t quite so scary after all.

First step? Neville eased me into it, by simply adding darker layers throughout my hair. He then put a soft toner throughout to dampen the ‘yellow’ tint.

Result?

I was super happy with the outcome – it was not too much of a change, but it was the first step to a slightly darker and more tonal shade. My hair was also generally feeling a lot stronger and healthier from a few trims and the luxury treatments (I can’t recommend these enough!).

Phase 2: All-over Dark Brown Block Colour

A few months after (and only a week before the big day) I was finally ready to take the big step and embrace the all-over, rich brown colour.

I was pretty confident with my decision, however I wasn’t completely sure about how dark or how warm I wanted it (or what would actually suit me). I ended up going in twice that week – the first time it went a bit too dark (although granted, the colour was amazing), I just felt it was quite drastic from my caramel locks (I told you – I am so indecisive when it comes to my hair!). A couple of days after followed by a few rinses, the colour settled and softened – but I still wanted the overall tone a bit cooler.

As always, Neville sorted it out – putting a colder ash brown throughout – which left me with that rich, brown colour I was after (he knows what I want better than I do!).

Result?

I LOVE it! It’s still warm (ish) as I naturally do have a lot of red in my hair (which the bleach has been taking out for years) – but it looks really natural, and very close to my own colour – just more a richer and glossier version (i.e – perfect for the wedding). Overall my hair feels so much smoother, healthier and thicker – I couldn’t be happier with the end result.

I love this – it’s so interesting to see the progression and how the final result was achieved. Your hair looks absolutely beautiful (as does your skin incidentally!). I’ve had an ombre effect on my hair since last summer and it has nearly all grown out now so I’m currently deciding whether to stick with my natural hair colour or add a more subtle balayage effect. Decisions decisions! Olivia X

The darker colour looks lovely on you Anneli, especially alongside that pastel outfit and the condition is great – so bouncy. You convinced me to try Sassoon a couple of months ago and I went to them for my transition to a lighter blonder shade and I completely agree – great service, great products and they knew what I wanted better than I did! Hope the wedding was fabulous, can’t wait to see pics! xx
