Wedding Series: Hair, Part One

Wedding Series: Hair, Part One

Recently, the lovely team at Sassoon invited me into their Chelsea salon to try out a new service they offer –  Nioxin Scalp Renew Dermabrasion Treatment – “The ultimate luxury treatment for thicker, fuller looking hair”. In short; it’s basically a facial for your scalp. Needless to say, I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to test it!

Leading up to the wedding, I have been regularly popping into Sassoon (I go to the South Molton Street branch in London) for weekly intense luxury treatments to regain some health and shine in my hair. I am trying to avoid cutting it as I want to keep the length, and I’ve stopped all bleach (for now!). So far the treatments have really boosted life back into my hair and it’s looking super healthy! More to come on wedding prep with Sassoon soon.

Back to Nioxin. It’s a hi-tech hair care system for your scalp, inspired by skincare. The scalp is an extension of the skin, and through the three main steps in the treatment – cleanse, optimise, treat – it is meant to hydrate, condition and antidoxidise the hair pholicols, to ensure more growth and thicker, healthier hair. Sounds good to me!

 Step 1: Cleanse

First thing to be done was getting my scalp examined through a microscope. This was connected up to a screeen (all very high tech!), so my scalp could be analysed. I have to admit, this part was pretty weird (and slightly gross) looking at your hair roots and folicles so close! Then they distributed the Dermabrasion Treatment on my scalp which was left in for 15-20 minutes; this is to cleanse and remove all build-up and excess oil around the hair follicle.

Step 2: Optimise

Next step was shampoo and conditioning with the products, and lastly they put the Scalp Treatment on (leave-in product).

Step 3: Treat

After care and conditioning, my hair was blow-dried (as always, to perfection).

Result?

A very happy girl with very happy locks! Since the treatment, my hair has visibly grown and feels a lot stronger. Granted, this is combined with regular hair treatments at the salon as well as eating super healthy; nevertheless, it’s seems to have worked pretty well on my hair and I would definitely recommend to pop by and get your hair ‘diagnosed’ and treated!

Product Overview

I was reccomended the System 3 treatment series for normal to thin-looking, fine, chemically treated hair. Although I was born with thick hair; due to a lot of bleach, treatment and sun over the past decade, my hair has become a lot thinner and dry.

So far the products have worked great. I love their minty and fresh smell (white tea extract, peppermint oil, kukui nut oil, silk amino acids & botanical extracts) and although granted it takes me 5 minutes longer in the shower going through all the treatments step-by-step – it seems to be worth it so far!

The treatment costs £45 for 45 minutes. This includes the check up and condition. The treatment is recommended every 30-45 days as prescribed to you by your NIOXIN expert stylist. Check out all Nioxin product ranges here and find your nearest Sassoon Salon here
