Wedding Preparation

Leading up to the wedding – I have naturally been preparing and putting a lot more effort into my skin, hair and general health. It was therefore perfect timing when the legendary French beauty brand Guinot invited me into their London salon to try out some of their facials. Guinot is one of those brands which I’ve known about forever – yet (sadly), I have only just started using – and absolutely loving.

I’ve always dreamt of being one of those pristine and organised girls who get their weekly/monthly facials – as I know (now) first hand how much of a difference it makes. Sadly, with a full-time job and a million and one projects on the go, it’s never been a priority. After recently deciding to take some much needed time off from work, leading to more time on my hands, and being increasingly aware of my impending wedding – I have finally got my act together. So over the past three months I have been fortunate enough being a regular customer at their stunning Guinot Salon in Mayfair, and let me tell you this – it’s been pure heaven.

The Salon

Not only is the salon located in one of my favourite areas in London on the super chic Albermarle Street in Mayfair (right opposite Brown’s Hotel) – their staff are so amazing! Sadly I have experienced so many times at similar establishments, the staff being quite cold and slightly snooty. At the Guinot Salon – everyone is just so lovely and welcoming at all times.

Being generally a quite stressed person (something I am working on now with more free time) – I have been known too run in to the salon flustered and late (far too many times than I would like to admit), and instantly feeling calm and relaxed stepping into this haven of a salon. Each therapist you see is also always well informed on your personal customer folder before each treatment; where you’re at with your treatment course, your skin type, progression comments, recommended products, etc. Trust me, it makes such a difference!

The Product Range

The grand entrance and reception of the Guinot Salon also holds all Guinot’s product ranges; and it’s a wide selection, let me tell you that! Which is why you’re (luckily) guided by your therapists after each appointment, who helps you navigate and tailor the products recommended to you after your specific treatments.

My Treatments

My first appointment was a consultation where they analyse your skin via their signature Hydradermie² facial – which resulted with the below course recommendations:

1st week:

1 x Hydradermie² treatment (one treatment the first week)

2nd, 3rd, 4th week:

3 x Beauté Neuve treatments (three treatments over three consecutive weeks)

5th & 6th week:

2 x Hydradermie² treatments (two treatments over two consecutive weeks)

*Please note the above recommendations were specifically designed after my skin and needs; it was also particularly intense and specifically tailored for my impending wedding.

The Hydradermie² Facial

Phase 1 – Cleanse and Identify

What’s so unique about this particular facial, is that they identify your skin type through their facial microscope. After a relaxing cleansing of the skin, the therapist studies your skin and locates any particular areas of concern or to focus on, as well as performing any neccesary extractions from clogged up pores.

Phase 2 – “Double Ionisation” Method

This is my favourite part – when they use electrodes rollers; they call this process the “double ionisation” method. This basically means that the positive ions penetrates on one side of the face and the negative ions on the other. After five minutes the rollers are switched allowing both negative and positive ions to diffuse the active ingredients deep down to the glands. What does this mean? Well, it basically allows for the skin to absorb both the negative and positive active ingredients – which helps remove any impurities and toxins!

Phase 3 – Sérum Gel Hydratation

They use the Sérum Gel Hydratation – which is paraben-free gels (a big plus), which is the ideal treatment after the ionisation, removing dead cells from the skin. Then I’m given a lovely face massage – which is the perfect end to the treatment, intensifying the cell exchanges.

I adore this facial! Over the course of 1 hour, my skin is left feeling so radiant, hydrated and fresh! I really like the personalisation element where the therapist identifies your skin (utilising the specialized microscope); not only pointing it out, but really trying to look at all potential causes – be it your diet, environment, stress (hello!) or existing products which might not be right for your skin (of which I found out I was using a far too drying and intense cleanser for my skin type).

I also (weirdly) enjoy the extractions of the clogged up pores – although slightly unpleasant, I feel so clean afterwards!

The Beauté Neuve

After the Hydradermie² facial – I went onto a course of 3 x Beauté Neuve treatments. What an absolute treat I was in for!

Phase 1 – Double-Peeling System

Peel In is an exfoliating gel that uses AHAs, derived from sugar cane, citrus fruits, apples and grapes that work on the surface of the skin to loosen dead skin cells. This phase of the treatment is customised to suit each client (this is so important!). The Peel In gel is left on the skin for between 5 and 9 minutes, depending on whether the skin is sensitive, normal or oily – in my case it was 8-9 minutes. Once the exfoliation process is complete, the acidic AHAs are neutralised with the alkaline Peel Out foam (loved this part!). This gentle foam then washes away the exfoliated skin cells, stimulating cellular renewal and soothes any surface irritation.

Phase 2 – Dermanove Regenerating Serum

Dermanove is an intensive anti-ageing serum formulated with passion fruit extract which regenerates the surface of the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. The concentrated serum also moisturises and soothes, restoring and protecting the skin’s delicate hydrolipidic film. Dermanove is worked into the skin using a relaxing massage (I have been know to nod of a few times – so relaxing!)

Phase 3 – Vitamin C Anti-Pigmentation Mask

The final phase of Beauté Neuve is the 10-minute anti-pigmentation Clarimasque. Pure Vitamin C is the key ingredient which lightens skin by curbing the production of the dark melanin pigment. It also regenerates and protects the skin by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and defending the skin against free-radicals and oxidants which can damage the surface layers.

I really noticed the difference after my second treatment – not only was my skin feeling super soft; my skin looked so fresh and bright! After the third and final treatment, my dry patches were gone and my forehead pigmentation was hardly visible.

I can’t recommend this facial enough; if your skin is feeling dull and tired – this is the perfect facial course to embark on! As you can read above – the Beauté Neuve is a multi-task treatment as it exfoliates, brightens and regenerates the skin through it’s double-peeling technique and intensive products – really boosting your skin’s radiance and re-hydration.

I would also like to add that during the time the masks are on, the therapist stays in the room and gives you a very relaxing shoulder and neck massage (this was a huge plus in my books!).

Conclusion

All in all – I am so happy with the course of treatments I embarked on with Guinot – not to mention the joy of going to such a beautiful and relaxing salon, as well as being attended by such lovely and knowledgable staff at all times.

As a little side note – I do eat very healthy, mainly vegan and stay hydrated with water, herbal teas and juices throughout the day – this helps a lot with my skin as well, of course! However the combination of both, has just been amazing I have found, and in my opinion my skin has never looked or felt this good. So a huge thanks to Guinot for helping me get me ready for the big day!
