POWER 10 WITH MADELEINE SHAW, NUTRITIONAL THERAPIST & BESTSELLING AUTHOR

POWER 10 WITH MADELEINE SHAW, NUTRITIONAL THERAPIST & BESTSELLING AUTHOR

Madeleine Shaw is one of those girls that just glows (her first two books were aptly named ‘Get the Glow‘ and ‘Ready Steady Glow‘). She is such a gentle, kind and warm soul – with an incredibly infectious and positive personality – and I for one, feel so fortunate enough to have spent some time with her and bonding over our pregnancies! Madeleine is due 6 weeks ahead of me, and I managed to grab 5 minutes with here before she went on maternity leave, for my brand new Interview series, Power 10 – which is, you guessed it, 10 fire questions, where I will be interviewing all the ladies out there who are inspiring me. So scroll on down if  you’re interested in Madeleine’s tips on life, career and pregnancy!

1. WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND MADELEINE SHAW?
It all started when I moved to Sydney, I was studying out there and had terrible digestive issues. I went to see a naturopath and she totally transformed my diet. I swapped my low fat yogurt, diet coke and calorie counting ways to eating a whole food diet and fell in love with cooking. I ended up eating at this café so much they gave me a job and I ended up cooking there for a year. I was popping up my recipes on Facebook and a girlfriend suggested I start up a blog – that was September almost 5 years ago and I haven’t looked back since.

2. DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN 3 WORDS?
Smiley, calm & curious.

3. HOW HAS YOUR DIET CHANGED SINCE FINDING OUT YOU WERE PREGNANT? ANY FUNNY CRAVINGS?
Yes, soft mints and sushi, I just can’t get enough of them! Otherwise I’m just eating a bit more in general – I have loved watching my belly grow.

4. WHAT’S BEEN YOUR PREGNANCY BEAUTY MUST-HAVE’S IN TERMS OF PRODUCTS?
I love the ELEMIS Japanese Camellia Body Oil Blend for stretch marks, the Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream to perk up those tired eyes, and daily dry body brushing to get rid of any cellulite.

5. ANY HOLISTIC OR PAMPER TREATMENTS THAT HAVE REALLY HELPED YOUR BODY & MIND THESE PAST FEW MONTHS?
I’ve had a few actually, I love Reflexology with Maria Peacof – she comes to your house and massages your feet which helps balance out your system. I also have weekly acupuncture appointments with Emma Cannon, which is helping prepare my body for the birth. I’ve also had some amazing pregnancy massages at The House of ELEMIS and the Bamford Haybarn Spa at Daylesford Organic Farm. PfefferSal also do the best pregnancy facials, it’s so relaxing and really brightens the skin.

6. WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE TYPES OF WORKOUTS DURING THE PREGNANCY?
I’ve loved doing some gentle yoga, especially now that I’m almost at the end of my pregnancy. During my 2nd trimester I had way more energy and would go to Bumps and Burpees at Lomax and also Method Movement classes.

7. WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB?
The freedom, the creativity and the fact that I get to eat all the time!

8. HOW DO YOU LIKE TO UNWIND AFTER A LONG DAY WORKING?
I love watching movies, reading and just lazing around.

9. BEING YOUR OWN BOSS, HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO STAY MOTIVATED AND CREATIVE?
I don’t really ever lack motivation; I actually find it harder to switch off than switch on, as I’m just so passionate about what I do that I find I’m always thinking of new ideas. I also find that a good walk always helps inspire me, if I am feeling a bit lost.

10. FINALLY, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR TEENAGE SELF KNOWING WHAT YOU KNOW NOW?
Don’t worry, love yourself and enjoy every moment!

It’s always interesting to read about people who have been struggling with aspects of their health and find that switching to a whole foods diet has been really beneficial. I find I feel so much healthier and have more energy when I’m eating properly x

    Great new series!
I am already excited to read the next posts from this series and just love that you started it with Madeleine. I have some of her cookbooks and totally agree that she is a role model. So positive about life in general.
Keep the cool girls (or boys for that matter) coming ;).
