My yoga obsession continues. I mean, I nearly feel like ´what was life before yoga´? It has helped me through so much emotionally, it has lengthened and strengthened my posture, made me appreciate and feel muscles and parts of my body I didn’t even know existed, and without sounding too over-the-top or cheesy – it has overall, made me into a better, more calm and grounded person. Don´t get me wrong, I am not claiming to be an expert in all things Yoga – far from it – I simply appreciate and love the feeling of practising when I can (in an ideal world, every morning or night).
I mean, we all know the struggle, let´s face it. With social media constantly switched on, where we spend hours of mindless scrolling getting our daily Instagram fix on our evening commute from work, checking in on Facebook right before we go to bed, stalking all our favourite celebs on Snapchat, or receiving endless Twitter notifications pop-ups (note to self: turn these alerts OFF!). And if it´s not social media, it´s TV. Which again, can act as the biggest escapism after a long day working in the office, where you most likely don´t have a lot of energy to converse or use much brainpower… In comes the trashy reality shows, which sure enough, numbs our brains into jelly. Sounds harsh, but I am pretty sure I am hitting some core home truths here… Don´t worry – WE ALL DO IT. Or at least, sometimes/most of the time. Hopefully, many of us still have that little voice at the back, reminding us to REALLY switch off by banning all social media and TV during some parts of your evening, and spending some much needed quality ´me time`. Read on for how I have personally struggled as a full-time blogger and digital influencer to navigate this balance, and some of my top tips and daily reminders to keep me motivated.
One of the things that excites me the most about Spring, is not only the warmer weather and a new wardrobe re-fresh… But a switch in eating habits; swapping heavier and starchier ingredients, for fresh and light veggies and fruit! I am a salad girl at heart; and no, not a boring salad girl at heart – far from it; the more experimental and tastier ingredients, the better! And who said salad was a boring anyways? I don´t really follow recipes when it comes to my salads, but tend to just go for what I fancy during my weekly food shop… Here is a typical every-day lunch for me during Spring – a salad with a mouthwatering (and healthy) dressing, served with a slice of my superfood bread…
Ok, I know I keep saying it every time, but seriously – where is this year going?! How is it already end of March? 2017 is just flying away… But I for one am more than ready for Spring. It´s my favourite season by far. Gone are the days of wanting it too hot and balmy (as in, I wouldn’t complain with a few of those days right about now) – but Spring has that refreshing air of newness. We start ditching the layers, bare a bit more skin, and have that constant air of curiosity for the new season…
Do you have a go-to breakfast staple which you just can´t live without? Well, aside from my trusted avo and eggs, I am obsessed with my homemade superfood muesli, which is pretty darn good (if I can say so myself). Not only is it bursting with nutrition (it ain´t called superfood for nothing!), but it´s the ideal breakfast staple when you´re on the go, and you have limited time in the mornings – as it´s already prepared. And the actual making of the muesli, takes less than 5 minutes.
I get a lot of e-mails and comments from you lovely readers about my diet, and recipe ideas/tips. I am a self-proclaimed foodie – and although I have finally reached the most balanced stage I have ever been at when it comes to my diet (something about hitting 30, I tell ya) – I always tend to favour more healthy, wholesome food options, bursting with flavour. I´m a Pescaterian (I eat fish, no meat), and have limited dairy and gluten in my diet – for no real reason other than it makes me feel better. Here I´ve compiled some of my go-to cookbooks, containing some of my favourite type of foods and recipes – all with real, no-nonsense diet philosophies.
Hands up if your skin has been all over the place recently, dehydrated and lacklustre? I am pretty sure you’re not alone on this. The months leading up to Christmas was indulgent and hectic, and January and February has seen interchangeable weather conditions, with minus degrees, rain, harsh winds and drying indoor heating… In other words, no wonder our skin is crying for some help. It‘s thirsty! You might also find you´re suffering from dehydrated and tired skin, due to lack of sleep, your diet, or internal hormonal imbalances (or just a bit of everything) – whatever it is, the good news is you can reverse it and get it back to where it was. Fast track it today with these 5 simple beauty tips, to regain that subtle, smooth skin, and happy body…
My immune system is pretty solid and I seldom get ill. I think the last time I had a cold or a flu was well over a year ago, and then it was only that one time (sorry if I´m sounding super annoying right now). But I swear it´s because of my diet and the level of immune-boosting ingredients that´s in my daily diet, such as citrus fruits, tons of ginger and daily doses of turmeric… For the past few months, I have religiously been drinking this daily morning tonic, and I swear, not only have I not picked up any bugs or germs; my energy levels are so much better – which is pretty ideal during the darker winter months…
There has been so much about Superfoods these past few years; but what really are they? Technically, they´re described as “a nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being”. Many might assume that superfoods are rare, exotic, expensive and found in specialist shops. But superfoods are (luckily for us) all around us – and can even be found in your local corner shop or supermarket! Here are 6 of the top ones, shared by Nutritionist and Chef, Juliette Bryant.
It´s no secret that a healthy mind and body increases the length and quality of life, helping us along the road to success and ultimately bringing more meaning and joy to our lives… With over half our lives spent at work, the challenges to living a healthy happy life are many. With the ever growing pressure of deadlines, an overload of information from all angles, not to mention the constant strive for perfection; are all factors which can quickly lead to stress and anxiety – all of which will in turn affect our productivity, especially at our workplace. Meals are far too often rushed and eaten on the go, or not at all, which also affects our energy levels. It all becomes this endless, vicious circle; and with too many of us being so time poor, how can we even begin to find a healthy balance?
There´s no denying it – I am not a natural runner. I feel like some people were born to do running, and others, not so much (pounding the treadmills have never really been my “thing”). Until last summer, when I was going through quite a tough and mentally stressful period in my life, and completely on the spur of the moment, I jumped into my running trainers, and off I went. And I didn’t stop, I didn’t look back – and not only did it get me through that particularly difficult time in my life – it completely transformed the way I feel about running.
One of my favourite things to do when I go to L.A, and which has somewhat become the perfect ritual and remedy to beat the jet lag every time we go – is embracing the workout scene here. Wanting to be healthy in L.A is not difficult; with a juice bar on every corner, new healthy brunch shacks opening on a weekly basis, the hills to hike in, the beaches to run on, the great weather… Not to mention the majority rocking a killer bod with that effortless Cali glow. Anyways, here is my top round up of where I love to hike, which fitness classes are absolute must´s to try out, my go-to healthy eateries and juice bars. Enjoy!
Ok, so working out while you’re on holiday or travelling, might not be the first thing on your list of priorities once you’re away – but it´s something worth while considering – unless you want to return back feeling sluggish, 5 pounds heavier and back to square one! That´s not to say you can’t indulge, unwind and fully enjoy yourself (which is basically the whole point with a holiday), but scheduling in a short daily workout (even if it´s just 10 minutes) – is enough to leave you feeling fit, healthy and energised during, and once you’re back from your travels.
Holiday season might be slowing down for many, but after a long summer of travelling, and with a busy autumn with more trips to come – I thought I’d give a little insight into all my travel must-haves; how I like to prepare, my go-to beauty routine for skin and body, packing tips, my carry-on essentials, and last but not least – how I like to maintain it all whilst on holiday!
This post is a promotional feature, created in collaboration with Danone Light & Free. All words, opinions, styling & creative direction are, of course, my own.
I’ve spoken a bit about my daily rituals and routines in the past; but I thought I’d give you a little insight into my new morning routines for the summer months (it’s important to switch things up from season to season), and how I like to inject more energy into my life, whilst making the most of the longer days.
There´s been a whole lot of me since I launched the blog late 2011 – so I thought it was about time I featured my other (and definitely, better) half, for once. You might have already spotted him on my Instagram, or from our Wedding Album blog post, but that´s about it. So when I teamed up with his all-time favourite shopping website, MR PORTER, to share his go-to grooming and wellness routine (with a little help from moi), I also took this opportunity to share a snippet into our love story and a little insight into my very own, Mr. Bush.
Establishing certain routines and habits have become such an important part of my day-to-day life. Especially since becoming self-employed, where a strong sense of discipline and self-control is even more important than before. Starting my days off with these routines, really creates a sense of balance, stability, and motivation to my days. I actually feel completely lost if I don’t manage to do some of them; which includes making my bed (marking the start of a new day), a cup of hot water and lemon (detoxifies and cleanses), breakfast (the first opportunity to nourish my body with goodness) and working out (gives me more energy). Recently, I´ve added something new to the mix…
Habits. Good or bad, shape our lives. We are what we repeatedly do and our lives naturally change with our habits. They affect all areas of our lives; from our career to our relationships, health, wellbeing (and everything in-between). Habits help create our personality and form the basis of every-day living; from conscious to sub-conscious ones, to positive or negative… One thing’s for sure – in whatever shape or form, we can’t live our days without them.
