HOW TO WEAR: SUMMER EVENT DRESSING WITH KAREN MILLEN

When Karen Millen approached me to style up three different outfits for upcoming summer events – I found it was the perfect opportunity to start planning my looks for a season filled with various parties and celebrations!

I love Spring collections – its the start of fresh and softer colour palettes, new shapes and styles, and the ideal time to re-invent old wardrobe classics and invest in new additions to complete that spring look. The New Ease is the theme of Karen Millens new collection focusing on three trends – The New Everyday, which includes the right white shirt, the perfect cropped trouser, the crisp little piqué striped jacket, the kick-flare jean, to Bohemian Utility, which is all about that effortless-elegant approach, with khaki tailored army pants, tribal stripes, raffia textures and luxe leather leather fringing. The Power of the Hand is the last trend, taking inspiration from artists, with brush-stroke prints, bold florals and graphic appliqués.

A great mix of styles, which I for one had much fun playing around to recreate three different looks for summer event dressing.

1ST LOOK: SUMMER WEDDING

Demure and classic are definitely two key words when it comes to dressing for a wedding. Either in soft colours or monochrome (I never wear anything to bright or bold) and the appropriate shape (never anything too daring, short or figure-hugging). The day is all about the bride and groom after all! But of course, we all want to look our best.

This outfit is typically something I would wear to a summer wedding – I adore this gorgeous floral embellished jacket, combined with the classic a-line shaped black dress – alongside neutral black peep-toe booties and this suede khaki mini clutch bag. Although a very simple and neutral look at first glance; the jacket is such a statement piece with the floral embellishment, adding the perfect touch of femininity and style to the overall look.

2ND LOOK: THE SERPENTINE GALLERY

Every week in London sees several gallery openings, exhibitions, fashion launches, beauty events and so forth. The summer season is no exception – especially when it comes to outdoor events – which as fabulous as they can be, dressing for them can be slightly tricky. I love the term casual luxe – which I feel is something that very much resonates with how I personally aim to dress for parties; never too overdressed or styled, yet always appropriately on-point.

On all accounts, this is a very me outfit; although bright red and coral shades aren’t typically something I wear that often – when styled with the right accessories, flat shoes and relaxed hair – I think the colours are stunning and so appropriate for the summer. I adore this chiffon printed skirt – another great statement piece – worn here with a textured fitted top, the ultimate boho-luxe fringe bag and metallic silver sliders.

3RD LOOK: A DAY AT THE RACES

I LOVE going to the races. Its such a fun day, especially when it comes to choosing an outfit! Its another event I like to dress appropriately formal for – however there is a lot more opportunity to play around with colours, prints and styles!

I am personally not a big fan of hats or fascinators; I would rather make more of a statement with a stand-out dress – which I think I have nailed in this gorgeous kimono shift style.  I adore the shape, stripes and colour; its fun yet totally suitable for a day at the races. Teamed here with neutral black accessories – an oversized leather clutch bag and these sexy mesh heels – this look is so fresh, fun, yet classic.
