FESTIVAL NUMBER 6

FESTIVAL NUMBER 6

A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to spend a long weekend in the beautiful Portmeirion in North Wales – which is a gorgeous tourist village, designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 in the style of an Italian village, and is now owned by a charitable trust.

Its also the venue for the incredible Festival Number 6 – which is to date the most stunning music festival I have ever been to. There were so many elements to the festival – it was like entering a magical theatre set, where at times ones surroundings didn’t even seem real, it was that beautiful. The festival is not massive, capacity wise, yet its spread out across several areas; the village, the fields (where all the main music acts performed), the forest (with rave tents and small stages), the beach, the pool area, a castle… The list goes on. From start to end, the mixture of people both working and attending the event, was a collection of happy, positive and care free (which is a far cry from how some music festivals can be) – which along with the unique setting, really made the festival even more memorable and enjoyable.

I could gladly go more into detail, but left with over 300 photos from the weekend, I will let these pictures do the rest of the talking…

We were fortunate enough to stay in one of the beautiful cottages in the small little village. The view was pretty spectacular (an understatement, to say the least).

The Village Green, with a mini pool, bars, stage and deck chairs to relax in the sun…

The food was another highlight of the festival – so much fresh and healthy to choose from (as well as comforting grub for the night such as Mac n Cheese & Churros).

The main stage – where we saw James Bay, James Morrison, Rae Morris, Years & Years, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Metronomy, Belle and Sebastian, and the legendary Grace Jones!

We spent a lot of time in The Castell Garden (Burger & Lobster played a big part in that), which was a bit more subdued with lounge music and a chill out area.

My friends (Browsers Bookshop) have a stall there every year. They had a brilliant time and managed to get preview copies of the new Howard Marks book. He was very obliging and signed copies in their little corner of Portmeirion. Love the photos, I am sorry I couldn’t make it now. :0(
