…this is the question. But why not merge them both? Which is pretty much my favourite way of dressing anyways; mixing androgyny with feminine frills = the perfect balance. How I do this? Well, it´s all about mixing over-the top and contrasting pieces, balanced out with a few more neutral additions. This outfit, is the perfect example…
I talk a lot about wardrobe classics on my blog. The reason being that I am a true believer that if you invest wisely in some core essentials and styles; your day-to-day dressing will become so much easier. These ´wardrobe classics` are not necessarily the most interesting pieces, and more often than not, simple and clean styles – however, they will no doubt form the basis of your look and style you’re going for; be it minimal, casual, edgy or chic. One of my personal go-to iconic buys, is the white shirt. Personally, I don´t think you can ever have enough of this piece; be it the oversized boyfriend shirt, slim fit, long, cropped, wide… It can be worn in so many different ways, hence why it´s such a great investment.
I´ve got a feeling gingham is going to be huge this year. And although I´d originally intended wearing this skirt more into the spring season – I´ve kind of had enough of my tonal and dark winter wardrobe – and been craving a fresh injection with some prints and lighter spring colours. But nothing too drastic; so this outfit was just the perfect middle ground – with the muted two-tone camel, and some classic monochrome brights…
We´re celebrating our 9th Valentine´s Day together this year (can you believe it!?) and as a couple, it´s something we´ve always recognized. I mean, yes, one should celebrate each others love every day, not just on this single day, but with every day life and stresses come in the way, it can be too easy to forget to make that extra effort. So it´s nice having this one day a year, aside from birthdays and Christmases, for another opportunity to really give each other that extra attention – be it with a sweet card, a bunch of flowers, a romantic meal (brownie points if he organises it, or even makes it!), or that extra special wrapped gift… Which by no means is a must or a necessity, but you know, just because… So from bigger to smaller gifts – Sam and I have together chosen our Top 5 Picks for Him & Her, in collaboration with NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER (in other words, you know it´s going to be good)…
I am sure I am not the only one who gets ridiculously excited when a new package arrives. The trembling excitement, the nervous thrill (hoping that I will love it as much as I think I will) and the knowing justification that I have (hopefully) just made a really good investment. Packaging (and really good packaging) is too often underrated. Personally, I always remember my initial first impression when I receive a branded delivery; and for any future orders, I more often than not opt for the retailers that offer that really thorough, high quality and consistently good presentation. Sure, we all want to unravel, and get to the content sooner rather than later; but sometimes it´s the actual thrill of opening a really beautiful box and sifting through the layers of silky smooth tissue paper, which is the real excitement…
Do you believe in love at first sight? Personally, I´m not so sure. But I definitely believe in having an out-of-the-ordinary feeling when you meet “the one”. From my side? The moment I met Sam, I wasn’t really looking for a relationship, so I was kind of oblivious to any of those kind of feelings… All I vividly remember, is that he gave me the warmest feeling straight away. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it at the time, but everything about him was instantly genuine; he made me feel safe and confident (always a good start)…
I mean, where has this month gone? In my last post, I was talking about how I have personally been easing into 2017 more gently and with ease. And I am planning on continuing to do so in the coming months! Gone are the days of constant stress an worrying; I am genuinely taking it so much slower than ever (and my body and mind is loving it). …and here are some other bits I have been loving this past month!
Apologies for the sporadic radio silence – I am still easing into January pretty gently (anyone else with me?). Most of my family are still over from Norway, and in-between meetings up in town and catching up on work and goal setting for 2017 – I have been enjoying lots of long walks in the park, and currently on Day 13 of 31 Days of Yoga (which is definitely helping to ease those January blues). On a more sartorial matter; I am feeling pretty un-inspired to be totally honest, and keeping the palette mostly black and neutral (no real shock there, I guess) – with the added sparkle of some fun sunnies and my favourite designer bags.
December. Officially the most cozy month of the year (FACT). Needless to say, there has been a slight overload in consumption this month; with presents galore, and grabbing some good bargains during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales + some early discount have already started (can you believe that Net-a-Porter has 50% on?! Go go go). Anyways, back to the point of this post… My favourites throughout the month!
Sartorially, I´m slightly confused at the moment.. I was really embracing the freezing crisp weather (I´m Norwegian, after all) and beaming sunshine the other week, but now, with the relatively freakishly warm weather (sometimes mixed with rain) – I am finding it so hard to dress! All I really (really) want, is to wrap up in big woolly jumpers and my chunky coats; feel real cold, and then head back into my toasty house to keep cozy… Or is it just me?!
´Tis the season for parties, dressing up, wardrobe dilemmas, new investments and (just maybe), changing things up a bit… I´m not one to instantly reach for a dress come party season; I have always been (and probably always will be), a pants and jeans girl. It´s not that I don´t own some amazing dresses, and do of course love to wear them from time to time; it tends to be trousers I more often than not reach for. So when French Connection asked me to style up a ´tailored` look and alternative for the upcoming festive season, I more than happily accepted the challenge to take it that step further.
Last Monday I had the pleasure of escaping to the country with PANDORA, on what was the ultimate festive and magical get-away. Being such a fan of anything Christmassy; this was the epitome of all things joyous. I mean, wreath making and gift wrapping in front of the fire with ´Love Actually` on in the background, sipping on mulled wine and feasting on mince pies in a secluded cottage set on the stunning country grounds of Berkshire… It just doesn’t get much better than this.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that coats and jackets are my thing, throughout all the seasons. I love how with the simple addition of a coat, biker, blazer, denim jacket, puffa – you can simply pull together any look; be it for the purpose of looking smart, edgy, formal, casual (or for the more practical reasons of keeping yourself nice and toasty!). Needless to say, I have conjured up my fair share of coats and jackets over the years; so much so that I have an entire floor-to-ceiling wardrobe housing all my precious outerwear (oops). And I am particularly excited about my latest addition from Jaeger, one of my go-to British brands. You all know my look is pretty classic, low-key and minimal, often in muted colours and simple lines. However, I am also a big fan of jazzing things up via a few statement pieces or accessories, to elevate my otherwise clean style; either through colour or prints. So when I spotted this dream of a fluro pink coat from Jaeger´s new Après Ski collection – it was pretty much LOVE at first sight.
It’s the 3rd December, and the countdown has officially begun until Christmas (aka the BEST time of the year). I am super festive at the moment, and totally lapping up the freezing cold weather, morning frost, festive food and christmas shopping. I tend to do a lot of my Christmas shopping online (the one thing I don’t love about this time of year, is the hectic shops!), and have already been rounding up my fair of share of presents for family and friends over the net. If you haven’t already started buying your pressies yet, or you’re still in need of some more gift ideas for your loved ones – I’ve collated all my go-to buys; from the ultimate gift sets, favourite perfumes and scented candles, jewellery, quirky interior additions, and other must-have fashion and beauty buys – for this year’s annual Christmas 2016 Gift Guide.
…So it´s Friday. But not just any old´Friday. It´s THE Friday: Black Friday. The biggest shopping day of the year; for good reason. The discounts are crazy! But instead of sifting through and searching for all the sales yourself; I´ve laid them all out for you in this blog post (categorised and all) – with all my personal favourites.
Anyone else feeling ridiculously festive this year? I know I am! I swear, the older I get, the more I get like a child when it comes to Christmas. And not just with the presents – but everything that surrounds it; with the Christmas markets, the gathering of friends and family, festive theatre and ballet performances, the food, socializing, over-the-top decorations… I love it all. But of course, Christmas is also a time for giving and receiving. I know my personal highlight is watching my 3 year old niece opening all her presents – the look of pure joy and innocent excitement, is priceless… And although Christmas is so much more than presents; it´s a great opportunity to give your closest ones some extra love and attention.
Although it feels good to be back home, back to normality and day-to-day routines after a long and busy period of travelling – there is something about New York in particular, that always makes me want to come back, time and time again. It´s busy, ever-changing, inspirational and probably the best city in the world (fact). I rounded up all my favourites in my NYC guide here – but to sum it up, what I love the most about this city, is how relaxed and easy it can be – and always best seen on foot, wandering aimlessly through the streets, constantly discovering something new every time we go…
Anyone else feeling super festive? I know I am. I love November as its the first month where you can actually start thinking and preparing for the festive season (which naturally makes me very happy). It´s a nice chill in the air, and I am loving getting my winter wardrobe in check, switching my skincare for the colder months, and aquiring some essential additions for the coming months… Here are this month´s favourites.
