DIY | A TOUCH OF GOLD

DIY | A TOUCH OF GOLD

I love a touch of gold, especially when it comes to interiors. Gold can be quite opulent and overpowering, so I prefer smaller details of it; combined with more neutral colours. And with the use of just a spray can, it´s so easy change it up!

Although I´ve been working my magic with that spray can all over the house; one of the places I wanted to show you was our bedroom. This room is very calm and serene (which I love), but I wanted to add some warmth and eclecticism to the overall look. The wardrobe handles was the clear choice, and although I quite liked the grey tonal colour palette all blending in, I still felt the need to change it up just slightly (and I am so glad I did).

Simple brushed chrome wardrobe handles…

AFTER

A classic and smooth gold touch of gold… The room still feels calm and minimal, yet has that added touch of gold luxe – just the way I wanted it.

My go-to can is from Rust-Oleum in Brilliant Metallic Gold. I´ve tried and tested several gold spray cans now, and this definitely gives the nicest shade of gold, and the quality and finish is excellent. And it´s less than £10!

I find it pretty easy to spray paint now, but it does take a couple of times to get the hang of it (or, you might be a total natural at first try!). The trick is to do it slowly backwards and forwards, until it´s all covered. But not too much, as to not get any thick lumps or uneven patches.

Anneli, one question – do you think it would look the same if applied on bronze handles? I know you applied on silver one and was wondering how it would look like on darker ones. Thank you!

      Hi Nina,

I canĀ“t see it making any difference at all – these sprays are made to cover just about anything, so if you invest in a good quality one + one that has loads of positive reviews – I think it will look just as good! Good luck :)

It has on our wardrobes, but I wouldn’t personally recommend it for your kitchen, as one will many times have wet/greasy hands that will no doubt start rubbing off the gold spray. Hope that helps!

Do you recall the colour paint on your wardrobe?

    • December 2, 2019 / 13:07

Sadly not, this was the only part of the house that had been newly painted right before we bought it!

Silly question but what kind of hinges do these doors have? I can’t see any in your photos. Perhaps a quick snap of a door opened?
    Thank you. Happy Holidays
