Capsule Wardrobe

In collaboration with Marks & Spencer, I am one of 6 lucky bloggers who have been chosen to collaborate exclusively on their AW13 Capsule Investment Wardrobe project. The aim? To encourage de-cluttering of neglected items in my wardrobe; and rather investing in a few key pieces for the new season. The project is part of M&S’s amazing Shwopping initiative in collaboration with Oxfam, fronted by the wonderful and inspiring, Joanna Lumley.

What is Shwopping? It basically means giving an unwanted piece of clothing every time you buy a new one. The clothes will be resold, reused or recycled, and the money raised will go to help people living in poverty. Not a single item will go to landfill and the ultimate aim for M&S is to recycle as many clothes as it sells – that’s around 350 million a year!

So, if there wasn’t a good enough reason to clear out my wardrobe, there is now. As you might have noticed, I regularly have clearouts and uploads of new, designer or hardly worn pieces (basically, in good enough condition to re-sell) to my WIBT Shop. However, the rest always goes to Oxfam (or other smaller, local charities). The Shwopping initiative is so great – especially for someone like me who likes to shop (a lot). Now I don’t have to feel that guilty; knowing I can always give back in return and being assured that it’s going to a good cause.

Next step? De-clutter.

 After a clear-out, I shwopped and opted for some key investment pieces for the hottest trend this AW13; monochrome tartan check – featuring Autograph Checked Biker Coat with Wool (£139) and a M&S Collection Faux Leather Checked Jumper with Mohair (£35).

M&S has seen a big change in it’s designs and general direction, since appointing new style director, Belinda Earl (ex Jaeger, Aquascutum and Debenhams). AW13 is the first season with the new direction, and the general quality, detail and style has vastly improved. These two pieces will no doubt be worn throughout several seasons to come – monochrome is so classic and timeless.
