MUMMY DIARIES: THE 12 MONTH UPDATE

November 9, 2018
IMG_3316

I know I keep saying this every single update, but I really can’t fathom how fast this year has gone! This time last year Rio was only 3 weeks old, and I was in a total bubble of love and bliss (running on adrenalin), yet a degree of pain (breastfeeding/Mastitis), and totally overwhelmed. I now look back at this time and can truly say that, despite the discomfort I was in, it was probably the happiest I have ever been in my life – and if I could turn back time to this little bubble I was in with Rio, I would. That’s not to say I’m not happy now, but that precious time right in the beginning, was incredibly magical. So much has changed these past 12 months, and there’s been a lot of ups and downs, tests and trials every single day, and most notably, I have grown and developed more than I thought I would (in a good way). This is the last update for now (I might check in at 18 months, and will no doubt be covering certain subjects as well – make sure you e-mail or leave a comment with your requests!). So here goes, Rio and mummy at just gone 12 months.  Continue Reading

MUMMY DIARIES: THE 10/11 MONTH UPDATE

September 20, 2018
Processed with VSCO with v6 preset

Another two months has gone by, so again I decided it would be easier to compile month 10 and 11 together this time as well. I mean, since Rio’s been on the move, I feel like I haven’t sat down to rest for weeks and weeks! It’s been so full on, with days and months going into one another, and I can safely say that I’ve never been this tired in my life. Not just mentally, but physically, as Rio’s such a big boy. Don’t get me wrong, I love that he’s so solid, strong and healthy – but it’s been pretty heavy and strenuous for me (especially with him going through the most intense separation anxiety for the past few months). When that said, these past few months have been so much more fun and rewarding! Yes, even though it’s been a quite tiring with the constant clinginess – it’s still pretty amazing that he now fully knows who I am, and although he’s a super active and boisterous boy, it’s been so much fun seeing him develop at such speed. So read on for all the various updates, news and any advice I’ll be sharing from the past few months – including his new routine, a sleep update, some breastfeeding news, a typical meal plan for Rio, his favourite toys and activities, including some personal wellness updates which are making all the difference to my health…

MUMMY DIARIES: THE 8/9 MONTH UPDATE

July 30, 2018
Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

A lot has happened in these last two months, so much so, that I simply didn’t have the time to write Rio’s 8-month update several weeks ago, so I decided to compile month 8 and 9 together. And boy, has there been some major developments during this time, with Rio advancing in leaps and bounds… He can now crawl, pull himself up and stand, he claps, waves, gives kisses (kind of), has nearly 6 teeth, and is a little chatter box (not talking yet, of course, just a lot of ‘baby talking’!). As for me, I feel like I’m finally getting the hang of motherhood and have definitely become more relaxed, which has a lot to do with several recent ‘out of routine’ holidays! I’m generally feeling better and getting stronger, although I’ve still got a few issues which I’m working on getting sorted – but all in all, things are pretty good! Read on for all of our updates, developments and general motherhood bits and bobs…  Continue Reading

Another month, another motherhood update for you guys! It’s just crazy how fast time flies. I now understand why so many fellow mama’s kept warning me to cherish every second, as they grow up so quickly! Rio has really done a big leap from 6 to 7 months, and it’s so fun and rewarding seeing a proper personality develop (with early tantrums and all!). Scroll on down for Rio’s new routine, weaning, sleep update, new activities, supplements, toys and gadgets we love, and lots more…

MUMMY DIARIES: THE 6-MONTH UPDATE

April 12, 2018
Facetune_11-03-2018-16-43-33

I can’t believe my baby boy is 6-months today. I know they say time flies when you have children, but seriously – where has the time gone?! It genuinely doesn’t feel like six months since I went into the hospital… In so many ways I feel like everything is happening way to fast, and he’s growing up too quickly. Then on the other hand, I’m just loving seeing Rio developing. I feel like every single day that goes by, he’s getting more alert and curious, and it truly is the most rewarding feeling in the world. So scroll down if you want to read about Rio’s updated routine, sleep update, first weeks of weaning, my journey with breastfeeding, what activities he’s been enjoying now that he’s a bit older, and lastly, how I’m finding time for myself…

MUMMY DIARIES: THE 4/5-MONTH UPDATE

March 1, 2018
IMG_3633

I can’t believe I’m writing this, and Rio is nearly 5 months old in just a few weeks. It still feels like yesterday, when he was as light as a feather, I was a walking zombie (gladly, no more), and everything was all so new and exciting/exhausting/surreal… So much has changed since my last update, when Rio was just over 3 months. Not only has he nearly doubled in size, but he’s really developed into a proper little person with a proper personality! My routine has also changed and evolved, the sleep situation is better, and now that he’s older, there are more fun ways to play and activities we can do together! And finally, after months of trying and testing – I have summarised what baby essentials and brands we can’t live without…  Continue Reading

MUMMY DIARIES: THE 3-MONTH UPDATE

January 25, 2018
rio-1 (1 of 1)

I can’t believe how fast time has flown by, and that Rio is now 15 weeks already… I’ve been getting a lot of requests to share more about motherhood with Rio – my schedule, sleep, activity, etc. So I thought I would give you guys a little insight into what I’ve been doing, what’s worked/what hasn’t worked, and why I decided to create a routine with him already at 7 weeks….

BABY DIARIES #7 | THIRD TRIMESTER UPDATES

October 7, 2017
baby-1 (1 of 2)

I am not going to lie, the third trimester has not been the easiest. Or, let me re-phrase that just a little bit – the last few weeks have not been the easiest. And it’s hard not to just focus on that, when I am in the middle of what is in my opinion, the hardest part of the pregnancy. I say ‘hard’ – as I am just days away from giving birth (hopefully just day, and not weeks – but who knows), and never have I felt so strange, swollen, sore, tender, heavy… Suddenly my bump has reached it’s maximum limit and space, and day-to-day things such as walking, breathing, sleeping, are becoming increasingly harder. When all of that said, I am of course so happy and positive as well – as I know I will soon be meeting my precious one, and we will finally be a family.

MY JOURNEY WITH BREASTFEEDING (& ALL THE THINGS I WISH KNEW)

February 5, 2019
Fred-Photography-7673

I’m not going to lie, I never gave much thought to breastfeeding before having Rio, other than it being something I really wanted to do. Little did I know how difficult it was going to be, and what an unexpected journey and experience, I certainly hadn’t realised I would have to deal with just days after giving birth (when your body is already so sore and all over the place, your hormones are through the roof, and you’re overwhelmed to the max). I can safely say, had it not for being incredibly stubborn and persevering with it, I would have probably had to stop breastfeeding after a few weeks. One of the main incentives for writing this blog post, is that there are so many things I wish I knew beforehand! Not to mention the difficulties and issues so many of us mama’s experience. Of course, not everyone wants to breastfeed (which is up to each and every mum – no judgement), then there are the ones who wants to breastfeed, but physically can’t do it due to supply (and certainly don’t need any added pressure on top of that), and then there are the ones like me, who was fortunate to have lots of milk and desperately wanted to breastfeed, but with a baby who wasn’t able to latch on properly… So here is my story, along with some personal advice which I hope might come of use to fellow or new mummy’s-to-be…

KIND OF BACK

January 18, 2018
IMG_1564

So it’s over 3 months since I became a mummy, and I’m finally getting back into the swing of things. I am by no means working full time (at all), but every now and again (when he sleeps, basically) – and I don’t have mounds of washing to do (which is a rarity!), and catching up on some general life/house/Rio admin – I try to make some time to stay creative. Be it write a bit, shoot some new bits, reply to some e-mails. Nothing major, but just keeping my foot slightly still in the game. But also, my foot firmly off the pedal, as I am still making the most out of this precious newborn bubble…
